Here’s a story of how my friend went from a nerdy science student with straight As in my WASSCE exam to a multi-7 figure Digital Marketing Brand Owner.
A Guide on how a friend of mine turned turn his N15,000 monthly alawii into a N1.6M/month business using WhatsApp.
Here’s His Story:

I graduated from secondary school with straight A’s in August 2019, got NO recognition compared to what I expected, NO scholarship awarded, too.
I immediately got admission into the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, and my account was dead dry.
I resumed school on January 2020, and it felt good getting N15k alawiii from Dad every month.
Most of my mates spent their alawii on school books, University dues here and there, as university is filled with debit alerts.
I saved mine and started learning Graphics design.
Graphics design sucked for me so I dropped it and started looking for something else to do a few weeks later. My friend Buzor showed me the numbers she was doing selling info on WhatsApp and that was insane to me.
I said alright…
I was going to invest my savings learning sales and marketing and see what happens…
Corona hit and we went home for lockdown by March but I’m grateful I didn’t go home to my parents in Lagos I and my sisters stayed in Enugu.
I thought I’d give Sales and Marketing 1 month and if it doesn’t work out…
I would go back to being immersed in school; I spent a week creating my first WhatsApp class on Python Programming. I had gotten so much recognition for python programming in SS3 so I felt I could teach it.
>> Here’s 10 Business Ideas For Students
So in April, I officially started.
I prepared the flyer and planned the whole class by modelling a forex class o had joined earlier that year…
1 week of free training and 4 weeks of paid training.
The flyer sucks, but I’d show it here: ๐
I spent my last N2k on advertising the class on a WhatsApp TV…
Yes, it converted.
The Group was almost filled, for the free training, and the paid training was a hit.
I converted 11 participants into the N3k paid training..
Oh… I felt on top of the world making my own money and I saved every bit of it.
This was all the fuel I needed to venture into Information Marketing.
It’s pretty poor anyway, but at the time it was a huge banger for me, as I had never made a dime online.
So I was excited to my bones. ๐
I spent the next 3 months with my head down, learning. I studied Sales, copy & Marketing from bosses like Dan Kennedy and Drew Whitman of Cashvertising.
The biggest thing I learned?
There are still secrets in the info-marketing space that some of us learn and never tell.
By August:
I started teaching Marketing and simple Copywriting to business owners and graduates on WhatsApp… I ran ads with WhatsApp TVs to get them into my DM Nurtured them with my status updates and indoctrinated them with my results
Here are my September results, and some lessons I learned
#Content/Information Marketing is King.
Not just content.
Good Marketing would work even if your product is as useless as sh*t. Get your marketing right and you might never need a sales consultant.
Copywriting and good storytelling is all you need to sell out your products/services.
Audience Building and Email Marketing is key to 3X your monthly profits while still safeguarding your profits Stack as much cash as possible and rely on your parents/guardians for day-to-day stuffs (don’t claim boss yet) Spend most of your stacked cash on audience building (ads).
#Spend on Courses That Make You Better
Spend on courses that make you better, but don’t just get caught up on consuming alone.
Spend 80% of your time creating and 20% consuming. I said content marketing is King, what platforms should you use? We’re so used to Facebook, Instagram etc..
That we neglect some powerful platforms like:
Quora.com, Reddit.com, Pinterest.com, Forums i.e (Nairaland), E.t.c
Learn market research and content marketing on these platforms before it’s too late…
The best time to get ready is when you don’t need it yet.
I spent the most of my time building digital assets like audiences, networks and friends in my niche, mentors..
By the beginning of this year, I was already settled on what I wanted to do. Build in public and specialize in marketing.
By January ending, I had my first 7-figure month and, as usual, I offload and stack up for future campaigns. ๐
I’ve spent thousands learning different skills and testing various marketing and advertising strategies in various business models, but ultimately building a strong social media presence with great contents works best for each model.
Build Networks, Audience, Cashflow Systems
And that’s it!

Quick question!
Pick One. Left or Right?
Funny… We all know the winner.
It goes to say that without good looking like an authority in your field, you will NOT sell out In a real life context.
What you have from your hair to your feet matters On the Internet.
what you have on your profile matters
Once you look good, people are already pre-sold. Yes!
The sale starts before you show your product Na why e no dey hard us.
Someone contacted me a few days ago with this as a profile picture and i just died ๐
I wasn’t surprised when he stated that he was struggling with sales. I mean…
Are you shocked? ๐
If you sell cars.. Don’t set a car as your profile picture. If you sell phones…
Don’t set a phone as your profile picture.
People want to see your face and understand that they are talking to a real human.
You also need to look like what you sell You can’t be an Online Bible Study Coach who has a tattoo You can’t be a Sales Coach when you look like someone who knows the pangs of hunger very well You can’t be a Fitness Trainer when you look like this…
Profile Pictures Rules
- It must include a human being (except for Crypto, NFT folks).
- It must be a headshot except your niche requires you to show other body parts (i.e. modeling, fitness).
- It must be of good quality.
- It must have you alone in it or at least have you at the center
- It must have your face shown clearly (your hands shouldn’t cover a huge chunk of your face ).
This portion of your profile should also make you stand as an authority Your Bio, Working hours and other details should be filled clearly.
I saw a guy that had this last night and i just have to use him as a good example
๐ฐPostscript๐
Don’t ask me, “What if I am not using WhatsApp Business?”
Because, Why on earth aren’t you using it? Do you not take your business seriously or something? It has so many great features…
So use it!
#2. ๐๐ผ๐ป’๐ ๐๐ถ๐๐๐๐ฟ๐ฏ ๐๐ฟ๐ผ๐๐ฝ ๐ ๐ฒ๐บ๐ฏ๐ฒ๐ฟ๐
Avoid sending group members messages Basically…. Don’t be this guy ๐
I used to be that guy last year. But honestly, it’s a sleazy strategy Best-case scenario: As soon as they save your contact and the conversation ends, they forget about you
Worst-Case Scenario: They ignore you (a lot of people will).
The reason people hate those messages is because there are cases when others have been scammed by these sudden visitors. So even if you come in peace, you will be welcomed with violence.
Group admins hate people who do that.
I mean…
Who wants a member to be a scam victim?
One time….
A man insulted me in Yoruba for entering his DM.
I also believe I heard a bell in that voice note. So I deleted the chat, said a prayer and dropped my phone.
In summary:
Avoid this before they lay a curse on you. It’s wrong. Stop it.
Generate real traffic.
Although this doesn’t mean that you should never try to connect with group members, you can….
But have a good reason before doing so.
Also… Your introduction should not look like a copied text ( I.e. sound like a robot )
#3. Use Of ๐ช๐ต๐ฎ๐๐๐๐ฝ๐ฝ ๐ฆ๐๐ฎ๐๐๐
Ah…. This will be interesting.
The WhatsApp status feature is the best part about WhatsApp Marketing. Its too good Millions can be made using that feature Buy many use it wrongly.
Let’s make sure you aren’t one of them.
Your WhatsApp Status Needs to Have The Following:
- Testimonials
- Lifestyle posts
- Valuable updates
- Educational content
- Memes/skits (once in a while)
Also you need to ABC with the length of your status
Always Be Considerate
This has 11 slides, Looks good
I’m happy to open this โข Looks less stressful to the brain ๐
This has 35 slides
This is pure evil
This screams stress
This is annoying (a little)
This makes me ask “Are you out of your mind?” ๐
No matter how entertaining your content is…
Keep it short and simple.
This will be open for debate, I know. Many will disagree.
Keep it simple, 12 – 20 slides have proven to be the sweet spot.
Always target within that range
#Status Tip 1:
Spread out the timing of your post.
Don’t post all 12 slides in the morning!
Post at various intervals throughout the day so your updates appear frequently at the top of people’s status update pile, E.g. 1st Post – 7am, 2nd post – 8am
Result: More status views
#Status Tip 2:
Always end your status with an eye-catching image.
A baby, a beautiful woman usually does very well. Nude images work too (example).
If you want to use that for your business, be my guest. The goal is to end with a post that draws attention, but don’t be stupid with it.
#Status Tip 3:
Always use one particular background and font when you type.
This is common sense. This is also good branding.
After viewing these slides, I suggest you make a choice of the specific font and background color you use for your business.
This!! If you do this well, it will save you time and bring positive responses. If you do this wrong, it will save you time and add you to the “blocked contacts” Don’t spam people’s DMs.
Your broadcast message should have a personal touch.
Don’t say
- “Sir/ma”
- “My people”
- “boys and girls”
- “Ladies and gentlemen”,
Make it look like a one-on-one message instead
Human beings are selfish.
Even god is selfish.
We all want to be addressed to. Which will you open?
“Hey, boss. I hope you’re doing good. I want to share something with you” Vs “Hey guys.
I hope you all had a wonderful day. I want to share something with you all”
You can also inform people that you want to add them to a list
๐ฐExample๐
Before I add anyone to my broadcast list where I sent updates on marketing,ย I make sure to ask them first.
Since I started asking people, I have gotten 6 No!(s) and 2 filled broadcast lists.
